Angela Magana vs. Lynn Alvarez

In the fight of the night, Angela Magana and Lynn Alvarez went toe-to-toe in a women's lightweight match. After training with Greg Jackson in New Mexico, Magana showed the heart and skill of her famous teammates Rashad Evans and Nate Marquardt, taking her opponent down and going for one submission after another. A student of Tony "The Freak" Fryklund, Alvarez fought with ferocity and power, escaping armbars and chokes while giving Magana a furious beating whenever she could. In the first round, Magana took Alvarez's back and looked to have a choke sunk in, but Alvarez thrashed her way free. She was not as lucky in the second round, though, as Magana again took her to the mat and applied a submission hold. Stuck in a tight armlock, Alvarez was forced to tap.

"She only got out of the choke because she was holding my glove," Magana said later.

Despite winning the match, she explained that she was not happy with her performance. "I froze," she explained. "My striking is usually way better than that."

Still, Alvarez's performance was impressive considering the circumstances. Magana said "I was in a back brace until two months ago," she said. "I had an accident and broke my back. My doctor said it was one of the worst back breaks he'd ever seen."

Congratulation to Shogun fighter Lynn “Lights Out” Alvarez for a victorious win over Michelle Waterson in Ring Of Fire 31.

Courtesy of MMABuzz.com: Bout 10: Michelle Waterson Vs Lynn Alvarez. Waterson landed a strong Muay Thai teep front kick to open the match, but Alvarez closed the distance with punches. Waterson then turned the tide and rushed Alvarez across the entire floor of the cage to push her up against the side. Alvarez jumped to a standing guillotine and pulled Waterson to the mat. Waterson worked body punches and escaped the choke. Waterson continued her GNP attack, but Alvarez remained calm and at the appropriate moment she again looped an arm around the neck of Waterson. This time she got the choke/neck crank, closed off and when Waterson tapped out at 1:19 of round one Alvarez took home the submission victory.
